Rainbow Unicorn Art Party

September 13, 2017

It’s that time again. Time to celebrate the birth of my baby girls. I can not believe another year has come and gone. This time of year is always bittersweet for Momma. I wish I could bottle them up and keep them little forever. At the same time, I really look forward to these parties. Giving my princesses a special day just for them brings me so much joy!…

Prayer Packages: Product Review

August 28, 2015

prayer package

I recently received a sweet gift from my new friends over at Prayer Packages. Coincidentally, it happened to arrive just on time as I was recovering from a Crohn’s flare up and a week-long hospital stay. Good old fashioned snail mail is not something I receive too often, and this beautiful package was quick to put a smile on my face.

2014 Holiday Gift Guide – For the Foodie

November 18, 2014

Heather Holland’s Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1

PicMonkey Collage

For the foodie:

1. Paderno Spiral slicer.

Of all my kitchen gadgets, I use this the most. My husband declares this is the best gift he has ever given me, because he loves my pasta dinners. This baby can make noodles out of anything (anything with a core, not a giant seed.). This is the easiest way to enjoy pasta on a grain-free diet, without spending big bucks on specialty flours and making a huge mess in your kitchen 😉

2.  Silpat Silicone Baking Mat

Say goodbye to foil. These food grade silicone baking mats are amazingly non-stick. Perfect for cookies, candy, cheese….anything you don’t want sticking to your pretty pans. They clean up so easily, and are incredibly durable. Get this set of two, one for you, and one for a special someone!

3. Ninja Mega Blender

I have an old-school Ninja that was handed down from my brother-in-law, (Thank you Jerry!) which I LOVE, but I am dreaming of this new and improved complete blender set. THREE sets of blades for ultimate blending. I sat in awe (maybe more than once) watching the hour-long infomercial as cupid shot me with his love darts. The commercial explains in detail the nutrient-releasing power of this awesome gizmo. Seriously. I need this.

4.Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker

A quality slow-cooker is essential for every food lover. Our busy lives are always throwing us those curve-ball days that you just don’t feel like standing in the kitchen slaving over a good meal, no matter how much you love to cook. Having a crock pot on hand has saved my sanity many a curve-ball day. Also perfect for fixing up some gut healing bone broth to keep handy for those sick days. Every cook needs a crock.

5. Silicone Baking Cups

Another eco-friendly baking essential, these cupcake liners are easy to clean, and save you money never again spent on paper or foil liners. They come with a lifetime guarantee. And they are so cute!

6. Misto Oil Sprayer

Most people are unaware that conventional oil sprays like Pam use aerosol and chemical propellants which can damage your stainless steel cookware. This conveniently refillable oil sprayer is an eco-friendly option, and it comes in lots of pretty colors. I love my stainless steel Misto.

7.Waffle Maker

Grain free waffles are easy to whip up, and have become a weekend tradition for the Hollands. Such a special treat to enjoy together on a Saturday morning. They also make an awesome bread replacement. I can enjoy all of my old favorite sammich combinations thanks to my waffler!

8.  Against All Grain’s Meals Made Simple

Danielle Walker happens to be the first Paleo blogger I ever started following. I own, and love, her first cookbook, Against All Grain. I have heard great things about her newest release and cant wait to add it to my collection.

9.  Brittany Angell’s Every Last Crumb

Brittany is my absolute FAVORITE gluten-free blogger. She has made baking enjoyable for me once again. Her recipes are spectacular….she is a gluten-free miracle worker. Not one dish of hers have I tried that I didn’t love. I am really anticipating the release of her new book!

10.Kitchen Aid

And of course, the mother of all kitchen supplies, a KITCHEN AID! Every home maker dreams of owning one of these beauties. Myself included. Over 20 colors to choose from. I guarantee the receiver of this baby will be eternally grateful. And thank you in cookies.

How to make a cute and comfy baby carrier for $12 or less

October 5, 2014

One of the first things that I learned when I became a mother was that if I wanted to get anything done, while keeping both myself and baby calm and happy, I was going to need a carrier. I was fortunate enough to have an awesome Dad who decided to purchase a Chicco carrier for me so that we could spend the day walking around the shops of Senoia together. Being a new mommy, I was unaware of the better choices available to me. I wore the heck out of that thing. Baby was on me at least 3 hours a day as I cooked, washed dishes, folded laundry, etc. I loved it.

I didn’t leave her in for long periods of time, because it seemed to me that she could get quite uncomfortable. I didn’t want her to loose circulation in her legs, or make her little hiney sore from being held up by her crotch all day. Since my first child, or perhaps even before then and I just didn’t know about it, some genius came out with a Moby wrap. One long piece of fabric that you wrap around yourself and baby keeping you all snug and warm and cozy. But by golly those things are expensive. My husband and I like to consider ourselves very minimalistic. We work hard for the money we earn, and we don’t like to blow it away on anything other than necessity. Of course we have an occasional splurge, but why spend money on something when I know I can make it myself?

I’m all about a good DIY project. Craftiness is in my blood. But even if you don’t happen to have a knack for creating, this wrap is incredibly simple, and easy to customize.
All you need is 3 t-shirts. I bought mine at Walmart for $4 a piece, making this project come to a total of $12. ($8 if you happen to already own an A&A swaddle, and $0 if you have some old t-shirts laying around.)

Lets get started.
(Please excuse the unprofessional cell phone photography. These pics were originally taken for a facebook group “Paleo Pregnancy and Beyond”. Shout out to my girls!)

First things first, you need to gather your materials.
-3 men’s t-shirts. (I wear a women’s small and used men’s small)
OR 2 t-shirts and one a&a swaddle
-scissors
-baby

Now, cut each t-shirt from armpit to armpit through both layers.
This picture shows that I crossed two loops over my shoulders, but I later learned that placing the entire loop over your head and pulling down to your waist is a little easier.
Now get your baby into place. Rest them on your chest, high enough so that you can kiss the top of their head.
Grab the loop on your right side, and pull it up to your shoulder. The loop will stretch across the baby’s back, under their right leg, and over their left leg. Pull the fabric out to ends of baby’s thighs, to create a seat and put less pressure on the crotch area. Be sure to keep a hand on baby at all times.
Now repeat. Pull the next loop up from the left side up to your shoulder, stretching across baby’s back, under their left leg and over their right leg.
For head support, you can pull one side over the back of the head. If they are awake and want to look around, you can fold the opposite side down across the top of your arm as I did here. Once baby is able to support their head, you can bring their arms out over the fabric, crossing it below baby’s shoulders as opposed to over them.
Here is an example of that, however my baby was still too little to support her own head. 😉

Now take a third t-shirt, which you already cut from armpit to armpit, and now cut once more, diagonally from armpit to waste, only through one layer.

OR take your A&A swaddle and fold it in half to create a triangle. then fold the tip down.
Center the middle of the fabric on baby’s back, and tie behind you. The loops are doing all the work, this is just a little extra support.
Here is a look from behind with the A&A blanket. The knot wont be so big with a t-shirt.
I love that I can mix and match!
And Lacie loves to snuggle her mommy.
This makes grocery shopping with two kiddos WORLDS easier.
Happy baby wearing!

Lyla’s Elmo Birthday Party!

January 7, 2014

October 21, 2011, my beautiful bundle of joy made her way into the world. Two years later, her Daddy and I are completely wrapped around her finger. She is very easy to please, but she certainly has her favorites. Number one being Elmo. So it went without question that I would be throwing her an Elmo themed birthday party. It was a wonderful success! The birthday girl was ecstatic to see Elmo everywhere, and just to enjoy the company of our family and friends.

I kept the decor fairly simple. I had a $100 budget for the entire party. I think I managed pretty well.
Last year, I made two banners to display. Each banner featured 12 photos- one for every month. I decided to make this a tradition, and display the banners from each previous year. Everyone loved it.

I made this “all about Lyla” chalkboard to remember a few of Lyla’s favorite things.
Now….about the refreshments.
My husband and I are the only ones in my family who eat Paleo. And because I take after my mother, I am a people-pleaser. I wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. So I decided to go with a taco bar. Those who wanted tortillas and taco shells could indulge to their hearts delight. And those who wanted to take the healthy route had the option of a taco salad. Cheap, easy, and who doesn’t love tacos?

Of course there was an abundance of fruit…

and veggies.
There were also a few non-paleo goodies for the children….or whoever wanted some.
I made “dorothy bowls” with blue jello and swedish fish.
And Dorothy oversaw the goldfish bar. The little scoops came from Michaels.
Drinks were served in mason jars with cupcake liners used as lids. I got the cute straws from Hobby Lobby.
And finally, the cake!
My mom did an incredible job. I told her what I wanted, and like always, she amazed me with her talent.

The backdrop was just two colors of streamers layered together and twisted. The streamers, tablecloths, plates, napkins, and plastic ware all came from Walmart.
The Elmo dress was purchased here.
Lyla loved her Dorothy. Here she is giving her a hug.
( We were going to a fall festival after the party, if you are wondering why she changed into a pirate.)
I had a few games for the kids (not pictured) that they all enjoyed. I filled up a small inflatable pool with balls to create a ball pit. I filled Lyla’s water table with water and tiny rubber duckies (from walmart) that the kiddos got to take home with them. We also had a “feed the monster” cornhole game that my husband and I made for Lyla’s first birthday party.

The party favors were crayons and goldfish that I divided into separate Ziploc snack baggies, and stapled together with a little note.
There you have it! Another successful birthday party under our belt! I hope my photos inspire you to have a little fun with your child’s next party!
